Stem Cell Research: The Adult Approach
Adult stem cells have shown hope and promise in the treatment and cure of many injuries and diseases. They can help rebuild damged vital tissues, muscles, and organs. Already they have changed people's lives and given many hope. Hope now exists for treatment of a variety of diseases, including Parkinson's, heart disease and diabetes. But this hope and promise does not come from the use and experimentation of embryonic stem cells. Adult stem cells, unlike embryonic stem cells, are obtained without harm to anyone.
There are those who tell us that embryonic stem cells hold the key to cures to many diseases. Yet two decades of embryonic stem cell research have not produced a single cure. Embryonic stem cells have been shown to be genetically unstable and can form lethal tumors. The proclaimed "magic" of these stem cells has been shown to be just that, an illusion.
Embryonic stems also come at an enormous cost: the destruction of unborn human life. This is a scientific fact.
Embryonic stem cells have been touted by the media and celebrities as the answer. But only adult stem cells are showing positive results. So where does the true hope lie? The adult approach, which respects all life, born and unborn.
Silent No More
The National Silent No More Awareness Campaign is an effort to make the public aware of the devastation abortion brings to women, men, and their families. It reaches out to women who are hurting from an abortion and lets them know that help is available. Women are invited to join in speaking the truth about abortion's negative consequences at nationwide gatherings.
Model and Actress Jennifer O'Neill, National Spokeswoman for the Campaign says, "This Campaign creates a safe place for women to break their silence about the pain of abortion. It is an honor to speak the truth and let others know they're not alone."
Their website, Silent No More, provides among other things, resources for post-abortion help and healing, information about upcoming campaign events, and an opportunity to sign up to join. The Campaign is a non-denominational Christian effort with no political or legal agenda.
Please consider joining them in assuring that the emotional and physical pain of abortion will no longer be shrouded in secrecy and silence, but rather exposed and healed.
Fasting and Prayer
Fasting and prayer will reduce the number of abortions, and raise women to the level of honor and respect they deserve in our society. Because Jesus fasted, he was strong even in his humanity when the devil tried to tempt him in the desert. Since Jesus was fully human as well as being fully God in the mystery of the incarnation, he recognized the need to deprive himself in fasting from the human pleasure of food at times. In doing so He deprived the devil the power of using the desire for these God-given gifts against Him. In addition, the devil and other evil spirits cannot stand discomfort, but as human beings we can endure the discomfort that comes with fasting. In this manner fasting can cleanse our spirits.
